REU’s in Bioinformatics

Bioinformatics is an interdisciplinary field that develops methods and software tools for understanding biological data. As an interdisciplinary field of science, bioinformatics combines biology, computer science, information engineering, mathematics and statistics to analyze and interpret biological data.

Yale Biomed amgen Scholars PrograM

BioMed Amgen Scholars Program is a research-intensive summer training program in biomedical research for undergraduate students who plan to obtain a PhD or MD-PhD in the biomedical sciences. The program particularly encourages students who are members of groups underrepresented in the sciences, who are the first in their families to college, who are from inner city or rural communities, or who have grown up with financial or other disadvantage to apply. Students must have completed one semester of college-level biology, chemistry or physics at the time of application.

Students should be interested in pursuing an MD or MD-PhD

Fun Fact:  Bioinformatics was invented by Paulien
Hogeweg and Ben Hesperin 1970 as “the study of informatic processes in biotic systems.”

JACKSON LABORATORY

The Summer Student Program is available at The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine and The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine in Farmington, Connecticut. Outside the laboratory there is much to explore. Depending on the location, students can visit the sights of Boston, New York, or the trails and vistas of Acadia National Park. The Summer Student Program is designed for students who want to immerse themselves in genetics and genomics research. It emphasizes laboratory discovery, communication of knowledge, and professional growth.
